Shangbaochong Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Shangbaochong, about 24 km northeast of Liling City, Hunan. It was named by Li Pucheng in 1986.
Lithology and Thickness
Claystone. A suite of neritic terrigenous fine-grained clastic formation, composed mainly of gray-black and weathered gray-yellow shale, marl and silty shale, intercalated with clayey limestone and sandstone, 10−60 m thick. Dominated by clayey and calcareous rocks, it is easily distinguished from the underlying Yuelushan Fm and the overlying Zhangshuwan Fm that are dominated by quartz sandstone.

Distributed in the Yiyang, Ningxiang, Changsha and Liling areas of central Hunan

Contains Brachiopods Eochoristites neipentaiensis, E. transversa, Unispirifer sp., Neospirifer sp., Ptychomaletoechia kinlingensis, Martiniella sp., etc. (belonging to the Eochoristites-Martiniella zone); Corals Pseudouralinia sp., Keyserlingophyllum sp., etc.
